What are the benefits of electrifying your fleet?
Discover how we can help you transition to electric and enhance your fleet management

To meet the government’s goal of reaching net zero by 2050, public sector organisations are being encouraged to review their fleets and consider the integration of electric vehicles.
Transitioning to electric vehicles will not only reduce the impact on our environment, but can also deliver other benefits such as:
- Significant long-term savings – Electric Car Guide states that by using Octopus Energy’s overnight charging rate of 7.5p per kWh, the cost for an electric car to cover 100 miles is just £1.312, significantly less than the £15.84 for a petrol car and £13.77 for a diesel car.
- New evidence shows that EV battery technology is improving - and battery life is now expected to outlast the usage life of the vehicle. As driving distance increases, the degradation rate of the battery does not, meaning better value for money over longer journeys.
- Helps to reduce fleet emissions – driving organisations towards net zero transport strategy goals.
- Improving public health – electric vehicles reduce air and noise pollution when compared to combustion engine vehicles, this therefore contributes to reducing the pressure on public services such as the NHS due to an overall improvement in community health and wellbeing.
- Supported by recent government funding – the UK Government continues to support the adoption of electric fleets by introducing government funding schemes such as The Electric Car Scheme and Plug-in grants.
Putting it into practice
We supported in the operational delivery of the Kent REVS project, funded by £1.5 million from Highways England, which enabled 336 businesses in Kent and the Southeast to trial electric vans (EVs) for free.
With 48 vans available, the initiative aimed to demonstrate the benefits of EV ownership, contributing to the county's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Participants, including businesses, charities, and public sector organisations, experienced significant savings on fuel and maintenance, reduced carbon emissions, and prepared for the upcoming ban on new petrol and diesel cars in 2030.
Success stories, such as Spadeworks and Farleigh Coaches, highlighted the positive impact and educational value of the trials, encouraging many to switch to EVs permanently.
