Education is a human right and a tool which should be accessible to all. This is why The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education.
Inclusive and equitable education creates lifelong opportunities for all, this can help to prevent global issues such as poverty and gender inequality.
Here are some other reasons this day is important:
Education as a Fundamental Right
Access to quality education is crucial for the overall development and well-being of individuals, irrespective of their background, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.
Global goal for Sustainable Development
Education is integral to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Investment
Education empowers individuals by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and capabilities necessary to make informed decisions and invest in their futures.
Reduction of Inequality
Education plays a crucial role in reducing social and economic inequalities. By ensuring that everyone has access to quality education this can contribute to building more equitable societies.
Global Citizenship
Education encourages the development of global citizens who are aware of and engaged in global issues. It promotes tolerance, understanding, and respect for diversity, laying the foundation for a more peaceful and interconnected world.
